Yakutat Surf Club seeks to empower, educate, and inspire the community through exposure to Lingít culture and the ocean. At its core, home grown programs like Surf Club, create deeper relationships to place and encourage young leaders to be stronger caretakers of their environment and their community. When one kid wiped out, another was there to grab their hand and laugh it off.

Sitka Conservation Society was first connected with Surf Club through the Sustainable Southeast Partnership, which envisions self-determined and connected communities where Southeast Indigenous values continue to inspire society, shape our relationships, and ensure that each generation thrives on healthy lands and waters. We built a great partnership with Yakutat Surf Club and have sent youth and instructors, supported efforts through storytelling, and helped with fiscal sponsorship and administrative duties.
