Before coming to Sitka as a Jesuit Volunteer with JVC Northwest, Sean worked in Montana as a ski guide for two winters and attended college in Seattle. He is originally from Massachusetts and is heavily influenced by time he spent off-the-grid along the rugged and remote coast of Maine. Leading our 4-H program, Sitka Spruce Tips, is compelling to Sean because it provides experiential learning for kids of all ages to engage with their home in the Tongass National Forest. 4-H gives Sitka's kids a better sense of community, develops their skills and knowledge of sustainable living, and empowers them to be stewards of the Tongass, protecting this place for future generations. Sean is also excited to learn more about local and subsistence food practices, particularly hunting and fishing, and to exploring Sitka and the Tongass via trailrunning, biking, and paddling.
