The Sitka Conservation Society will be hosting a boat cruise in memory of Richard Nelson to celebrate his life, legacy, accomplishments, and the natural environment of the Sitka Sound that he so loved and treasured. We will journey out into the Sitka Sound and explore the open waters, the nooks and back bays, and the rocks and seamounts, and the wild coast that Nels knew and loved. On the cruise, we will share stories of the natural history of the sound, listen to episodes of Encounters that portray the species and natural cycles of the Tongass, and see what wildlife and sights we can find.
The boat cruise is on Saturday April 25th, from 9am to 12pm (harbor TBD), and is part of the Richard Nelson Celebration of Life Weekend. It will be held onboard an Allen Marine wildlife watching vessel.
Space is limited on the cruise, if you would like to join us, please reserve a spot soon! You can reserve a space on the boat by giving a donation to the Living Wilderness Fund in honor of Richard Nelson.
In addition, please RSVP below to let us know how many guests will be attending the cruise.
The cruise is sponsored by the Sitka Conservation Society’s Living Wilderness Fund, an endowment that Nels helped create to ensure the Sitka Conservation Society will always have a voice for wilderness on the Tongass. In his words,
“I have found the most beautiful, most enriching, most exhilarating experiences of my life in the wild country of Southeast Alaska. For this I feel immensely privileged. The Living Wilderness Fund is my investment in a dream: that children born a century from now will have the same privilege to experience these places, surrounded by the same silence, and blessed by the same abiding peace.”
Please make a donation to the Living Wilderness Fund in honor of Richard Nelson here to reserve your space on the boat.
