The nomination form is available online here. Paper copies of the nomination form are available at the Sitka Chamber of Commerce. The nomination form includes information about the awards and instructions for nominations.
The deadline for nominations for the first round of 2018 awards is January 30, 2018.
Alaska Computer Center poses with their 2017 award. They have received an award every year since we first started the program.
In their ninth year of awarding Sitka Green Business Awards, SGWG recognizes and thanks local businesses for using “green” practices and markets those businesses on the web and through other means. SGWG also provides businesses with information and education on ways to save money, conserve resources, and contribute to community.
This year, six new practices were added to the list of over 40 green practices. The new green practices recognize local opportunities and issues alike, such as using local renewable energy for heating and our inability to continue to recycle paper. Using energy/money-saving, waste-reducing recommendations from local businesses, the group created the list of green practices showing what local businesses are already doing to save money. These practices determine the criteria for the “winners” of the green business awards.
The program’s four levels recognize different levels of commitment towards green practices. The more actions that a business does to help the environment, the higher the recognition level they received. Award levels for 2018 are: Bronze Award (1-5 green practices); Silver Award (6-10 green practices); Gold Award (11-15 green practices); Platinum Award (16 or more green practices).
Two special recognition categories are available for businesses involved in a one-time, major environmental initiative or in ongoing environmental initiatives. The public is invited to send nominations for special recognition to [email protected]. Questions about the program can be directed to Michelle at 747-2708.
