Callie Simmons is an AmeriCorps volunteer working with both the Sitka Conservation Society and the Sitka Tribe of Alaska. Callie finds herself in Alaska searching for a sense of place and in complete awe of all the pockets of life and natural vibrancy exuding from Sitka. She comes to us from Oregon State University with a B.S in Fisheries and Wildlife Science with a focus in Non-Profit Management and Mammal Conservation with a Minor in Food in Culture and Social Justice. Throughout college Callie was fortunate enough to have an array of experiences that shaped her passion for conservation and wildlife. Her academic career has lead her to community gardens, research assistant positions working with (adorable) Western Pond Turtles and Oregon Wine Grapes, as well as interning at an Elephant Nature Park in Thailand where she examined the intersections of human-elephant conflicts and conducted animal behavior research. Callie is extremely excited to assist with restoration attempts, composting projects and continue to examine human-wildlife conflicts and what it means to explore!
